Abstract

The Antares CO2 laser fusion facility was completed in Nov. 1983. In its present design configuration, it is a two-amplifier 24-beam machine capable of delivering 20 kJ from each amplifier. The front end oscillator and preamplifiers deliver 90-120 J to each amplifier. The electron-gun sustained power amplifiers operate at a pressure of 1800 Torr with a gas mix of CO2:N2, 4:1 at a gas discharge voltage of Vgas≃500 kV. Electron-gun voltages are Veg≃500.
