Many of the observed characteristics of phase- locked semiconductor laser arrays1,2 are not yet fully understood. In particular, the exact nature of the mutual coherence among the array elements, which has a direct impact on its far-field pattern and its longitudinal mode structure, is still unclear. In this work, we present an optical model of phase-locked. arrays, which explains some of their observed features.
