Abstract

The gain model in Rocketdyne’s numerical wave-optics analysis of free electron laser resonators utilizes the Kroll-Morton-Rosenbluth description of FEL amplifiers.1 The numerical model is an elaboration of the 1-D computer program felmov written by Cooper of Los Alamos2 but includes the effects of off-axis variation in the wiggler magnetic field, radial variations in the initial electron density as well as azimuthally dependent betatron trajectories, and radial and azimuthal variations in the optical beam. Detailed aspects of the model are given in what follows.
