Abstract

Optical digital logic elements are used to engineer an ultrafast general purpose optical digital computer. Not discussed are the less stringent and often conflicting uses of digital logic for signal processing, image analysis, or optical sampling. A comparison is made with the fastest serial and parallel processors today, the Cray 1 and S-1 MII, respectively.
