Abstract

A number of single-emitter conventional semi- conductor diode lasers have been described as emitting output powers in excess of 50-mW cw from a single facet. These include the CDH-LOC,1 the window stripe (WS),2 the TH-LOC,3 the strip buried heterostructure (SBH),4 gain-guided thin active layer (TAL) lasers,5 the twin-ridge-substrate laser (TRS),6 and CSP lasers.7 The operating properties of these lasers will be reviewed.
