Laser angioplasty in animals and humans

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Both percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) with the Gruntzig ballon catheter and intraluminal infusion of thrombolysin have strict limitations. The former is usually ineffective in complete coronary artery occlusions, and the latter must be performed within the first few hours of an occlusion and must be followed by coronary artery bypass grafting.
