Abstract

The formation kinetics of rare gas-halide dimer and trimer molecules (RgX and Rg2X) have previously been Investigated using discharge and E-beam techniques.1 While the dominant RgX* formation mechanisms are ion-ion recombination and the harpoon reaction, Rg2X* formation has been solely attributed to three-body quenching of RgX*. However, due to the large number of excited and ionic species created in discharge and e-beam excitations, it is difficult to measure accurately rate constants involved in excimer production.
