Abstract
A gradient-index rod lens (Selfoc) with high N.A. has been fabricated by means of a new ion-exchange technique. In the conventional ion-exchange method, a nearly parabolic distribution of the refractive index is formed by exchanging highly polarizable ions doped in the glass for the alkali ions in the fused salt.
