Abstract
Optical disk memories for real time digital data recording are being actively developed in several places. It is quite probable that practical products will show up in the marketplace within a couple of years. Most real time recording disk memories being developed are the ablative type. Diode lasers are used as light sources for writing and reading data in most of these memories, and several types of ablative recording material are being developed as shown in Table I. A monolayer of a Te compound is one of the most promising media at present. Several compounds including TeSe, TeC, and TeGS2 have been investigated recently.
