Abstract
The application of lasers to the solution of practical problems by industry has been evolutionary. It has been strongly affected by cost factors, particularly the cost relative to competing technology. Continuing developments in laser technology have gradually reduced their costs, and as a result more practical applications are being adopted. This paper will survey several significant applications of lasers which have experienced increased use in recent times.
