Abstract

In the compact disk digital audio (CDDA) system proposed by Sony and Philips, a 2-Mbit/sec data stream consisting of audio and parity words is converted into a special channel bit stream of 4.3218 Mbit/sec.1 In this modulation scheme, the minimum and maximum run lengths are 3- and 11-bit cells, respectively, and the window length is a 1-bit cell. Given a typical scanning velocity of 1.25 m/sec, the minimum run length corresponds to 0.87 μm along the scanning direction on a disk.
