Abstract

The avalanche discharge HgBr laser at 502 nm has recently been shown to be scalable to singlepulse energies of ~2 J at efficiencies of over 1 %. This performance level was achieved by x-ray preionization of a large-volume 5 × 5 × 100-cm3 high-pressure low-inductance fast discharge device, operating as a single-pulse laser. Scaling from this device to a 200-W 100-Hz long-lifetime device will be discussed.
