Abstract
Low-pressure longitudinally excited CO2 lasers offer a number of interesting features to the systems designer. The lasers described in this paper are capable of operating with pulse repetition frequencies in the 0-10-kHz region. The pulse energy and duration can be tailored over a wide range. The relatively long pulse lengths in the 10-250-μsec region with peak powers of up to 70 W can offer advantages in certain military systems.
