Abstract

A scanning laser beam from a continuous CO2 laser has been used tor surface treatment of certain steels used in aerospace. The chosen steel alloys were (a) 300M, (b) S135, (c) S99, and (d) S82. The laser processing parameters for alloys (a), (b), and (c) have been studied for two different initial heattreated conditions: the fully heat-treated condition and the austenitized condition.
