Abstract

Hg1−xCdxTe is an alloy semiconductor whose band gap can be adjusted to any value between 0 eV (x = 0.15) and 1.4 eV (x = 1) by the control of composition during growth. Large nonlinear optical coefficients can thus be realized by matching the band gap to the pump laser wavelength.
