Integrated Photonic Arrays as a Platform for Infrared Neural Stimulation

Abstract

We demonstrate the potential of an end-fire silicon photonic waveguide array for temperature-dependent infrared neural stimulation. Temperature change of up to 1.4° C is observed in biological phantoms, sufficient for triggering biological responses.
