On the Validity of Assumptions to Incorporate Absorption in Monte Carlo Simulations

Abstract

Incorporation of absorption in Monte Carlo simulations of light transport in tissue is widely achieved by assuming photon packets and equal fractional loss per step. We report differences between this method and more rigorous algorithms under conditions common in biomedical optics research.
