The Spread Matrix: a method to predict the effect of a non time-invariant measurement system

Abstract

Time-gated systems are described using a non time-invariant operator, permitting to quantify the time-spread of collected photons and the photon rejection efficiency. Application to a fast-gated Single Photon Avalanche system is presented.
