Two-photon luminescence imaging using gold nanorods as bright contrast agents

Abstract

Gold nanorods were used as molecularly targeted contrast agents for two-photon luminescence imaging of cancer cells 160 μm inside a tissue phantom. Nanorod labeled cells exhibit three orders of magnitude brighter signal than unlabeled cells.
