Compression induced changes in the physiological state of the breast as derived from combined frequency domain photon migration and white light spectroscopy measurements

Abstract

We use optical spectroscopy to characterize the influence of mammographic-like compression on the physiology of the breast. A reduction in total hemoglobin, as well as changes in optical scattering, lipid and water content are noted.
