Induction of apoptosis and necrosis following pulsed laser irradiation of intracellular pigment microparticles

Abstract

Absorbing microparticles can be used for targeted cell killing when irradiated by short laser pulses. The physical mechanism of cell killing is the generation of transient microcavitation bubbles around the heated particles.
