A shear-displacement sensor based on a ferrofluidic defected microstructured optical fibre Bragg grating

Abstract

A shear sensor based on a ferrofluid infiltrated microstructured optical fiber Bragg grating is presented. Shear displacements between 250µm and 4.5mm are measured, corresponding to spectral changes in the reflected spectra greater than 5dB.
