Abstract

We demonstrate an inverse-scattering algorithm to reconstruct the loss/gain profile of fiber Bragg gratings. The algorithm can be used to interrogate gratings written in amplifiers and to develop novel distributed fiber sensors that measure the refractive index and absorption of the medium surrounding the grating.
