Effectiveness of Radial-Gain Tailoring in Large-Mode-Area Fiber Lasers and Amplifiers

Abstract

Analytic expressions are derived for modal discrimination in large-mode-area gain-tailored fibers. While Gaussian-like profiles result in increased modal discrimination, step-gain profiles smaller than the waveguide core offer the highest discrimination.
