Abstract
We demonstrated high-power operation of diode edge-pumped, composite microchip Yb:YAG laser. The new microchip consists of cylindrical Yb:YAG single crystal core with 5mm-diameter and surrounding transparent, undoped YAG ceramic pump wave-guide, and was bonded to a water-cooled heat-sink by a thermally conductive adhesive. Near 900W pump light from fourfold stack with 6 diodes directly coupled to the edge windows of the ceramic wave-guide with 300μm-thickness by using aspheric cylindrical lenses. Output powers of 410W (peak) and 285W were obtained at incident pump powers of 865W (peak) in QCW (10ms, 10Hz) and in continuous-wave operation, respectively.
