Abstract

We report a three-element Kerr-lens modelocked femtosecond Cr4+:YAG laser which generated transform-limited 82 fs pulses at pulse repetition frequencies > 4 GHz. We also demonstrate how this laser centred at 1525 nm has been used as a novel OTDM/WDM source to provide a total capacity of 1.36 Tbit/s and spectral efficiency of 0.4 b/s/Hz.
