Abstract

Picosecond pulse bursts generated by an Yb-doped fiber laser are further amplified up to the mJ level in an Nd-doped vanadate amplifier. Highly efficient frequency tripling (38%) and quadrupling (23%) in lithium triborate crystals is shown to yield near diffraction-limited beam quality (M2 < 1.2).
