Abstract

Precise thermo-optical characterization of Yb:CaGdAlO4, including principal thermo-optic coefficients (dno/dT dne/dT), allows to explain mode-instabilities observed at very high power in lasers using this crystal and to optimize the orientation of Yb:CALGO for athermal operation.
