Abstract

We present the mode-locked operation of a flash-lamp pumped Nd:YAG laser using for the first time nonlinear polarization rotation in type II (KTP) and in type I crystal (KNbO3). The mode-locking regime is self-starting and produced pulses of 20 to 35 ps duration.
