Abstract

We report on an end-pumped multiple Nd:YAG composite rod laser. Composite Nd:YAG rods are proposed as an efficient method in which to increase the maximum output power of a variable configuration resonator (VCR). By using such rods, which incorporate undoped endfaces, the output power of the laser was increased by more than 50 % over homogeneously doped rods. This laser produced over 16 W TEM00 output power and had a peak optical efficiency of 42 %.
