Abstract
Efficient laser operation was realized in Nd:Se2O3 at 966run (η= 43%), 1082run (η= 58%), and 1486run (η= 24%) with 1200mW of absorbed pump from a Ti:Al2O3 laser. Absorption, emission and excited state absorption cross sections were measured. Peak cross sections are σabs= 7.1 10−20cm2 at 825nm in absorption, and σSE= 1.9 10−20cm2 at 966nm, σSE= 8.2 10−20cm2 at 1082run, and σSE= 5.5 10−20cm2 at 1367run in emission. It is supposed that lasing on the strong emission line at 1367run is prevented by excited state absorption.
