Abstract

The power scaling properties of thin slab and planar waveguide solid state lasers, face pumped by arrays of diode laser bars, are presented. Good pumping efficiency, cooling and output beam quality are shown to be available at high average power with this laser geometry, based on experiments with small lasers at the 10 W power level.
