Abstract

Intensity noise properties of diode-pumped solid-state lasers are discussed. Applying a theoretical model, developed to determine intensity noise spectra of solid-state lasers, the transfer of intensity fluctuations in the pump process to the spectrum of the laser is explained. Three characteristic frequency regions in the noise spectrum are identified and requirements for low-noise operation are pointed out. The influence of different pump sources is investigated experimentally for diode-pumped miniature Nd:YAG ring lasers.
