Abstract

We report cw lasing of Tm3+ in a Czochralslu grown Y2O3 single crystal for the first time on the transition 3F43H6. An output of 290mW has been measured under Ti:Al2O3-laser pumping at 811 nm. The slope efficiency was 11 % with respect to the incident power. From absorption and fluorescence measurements a broad tuning range of more than 150 nm can be expected. The losses of the crystal were determined by the method of Findlay-Clay to be 4 % demonstrating the not yet optimized crystal quality.
