Abstract

Accurate distance measurements with large non-ambiguity range are achieved by two-wavelength interferometry using Nd:YAG lasers locked to sub-Doppler molecular transitions of iodine and cesium. Fringe contrast, as well as phase shifting interferometry are used to determine the distance. The measurement accuracy for a synthetic wavelength of 19.643 ± 0.001 mm is 70 pm.
