Abstract
Experiments were conducted with an Er:Yb:glass rod pumped transversely with a single InGaAs strained-layer laser diode bar emitting at 950 nm. Both direct and microlens coupling of the pumping beam were used. The laser was Q-switched with a FTIR loss modulator. Up to 1.1 mJ of energy at 1.53 μm were obtained at a pulse duration of 94 ns, with an incident pumping energy of 235 mJ.
