Abstract

Ho:Tm:Cr:LuAG demonstrated superior performance in some respects to the more conventional Ho:Tm:Cr:YAG even though the Cr concentration is apparently too low. Normal mode and Q-switched performance are compared for these two laser materials in the same experimental arrangement. In the normal mode, Ho:Tm:Cr:LuAG had a lower threshold and a lower slope efficiency while in the Q-switched mode Ho:Tm:Cr:LuAG had a lower threshold and similar slope efficiency. Results can be correlated with measured spectroscopic properties.
