Abstract

Q-switching of high average power lasers is surely a problem due to very high both thermal and optical load on the modulating device. The types of optical shutters usually used for periodical Q-switching of high-power CW-pumped Nd-YAG lasers are the following: Cr4+:YAG saturable absorbers; rotating quarter wave plates; electro-optic and acousto-optic modulators.
