Abstract

The first flashlamp pumped room temperature Ho3+ doped germanate glass laser is reported. Lasing is from the @@ electronic transition. The sensitizers are Er3+, Yb3+, and Tm3+. Initial tests with an uncoated 5 mm diameter, 75 mm long test rod, have produced a slope efficiency of 1.0 percent with a threshold of 51 J and output laser energy exceeding 1 J.
