Abstract

The absorption and emission characteristics of Mn5+ in Ca5(PO4)3F, Sr5(PO4)3F, Y2(SiO4)O, Ba3(VO4)2 and Sr3(VO4)2 were studied and compared. The room-temperature fluorescence decay was found to be non-exponential in Sr5(PO4)3F:Mn, with two components having 1.5 μs and 300 μs time constants, and single exponential in Y2(SiO4)O:Mn, Ba3(VO4)2:Mn and Sr3(VO4)2:Mn with 50 μs, 480 μs and 500 μs lifetime, respectively. No measurable emission was observed in Ca5(PO4)3F:Mn.
