Spectroscopy and Laser Operation of Mn5+-Doped Vanadates

Abstract

Mn5+-doped orthovanadate crystals, grown by the Czochralski and laser-heated pedestal methods, have been studied as laser gain media. They exhibit strong absorption at diode pump wavelengths and long room temperature lifetimes. The first laser oscillation in a Мn5+-based system has been observed, with output near 1200 nm. The slope efficiencies achieved so far are low.
