Abstract

This paper reviews our work on the optical properties of Nd3+:Ca2Al2SiO7 (CAS) laser material. From the absorption measurements Judd-Ofelt parameters are calculated and from the fluorescence intensity decays Nd3+-Nd3+ interactions are observed for concentration higher than 2x1020 Nd3+ ions per cm3. Broad emission is observed in the one-micron range. Laser experiments are performed in that range and a slope efficiency of nearly 40% is obtained.
