Abstract

In this paper excited-state absorption from 4f3/2 level of Nd3+ ions in oxide crystals has been analized as the main restriction for obtaining UV-lasing on the intermultiplet f-f-transitions from high-lying 4f3 levels. The principal differences in spectroscopic situation between oxide and fluoride Nd-containing laser materials were revealed. The prospects of application the Nd-activated fluoride crystals for creation UV f-f-lasers were affirmed by new spectroscopic data.
