Abstract

We have been studying LiSAF laser by pumping with a pulsed dye laser in the absorption bands around 640 nm and 440 nm in an effort to understand the pumping mechanism in flashlamp-pumped tunable LiSAF lasers, and to simulate the high power diode pmpued LiSAF laser. Also, we have measured by a pump-probe experiment the cross section for excited state absorption (ESA) in LiCAF and LiSAF in the visible range. The ESA cross section at 520 nm was measured to be 3×l0-20 cm2 for Cr3+:LiSrAlF6 and 1.2×l0-20 cm2 for Cr3+:LiCaAlF6
