Abstract

We present electron paramagnetic resonance studies of chromium doped forsterite in the temperature range 4-30 K. Our results reveal the presence of non-Kramers (ie. integer spin) chromium ions occupying two different crystallographic sites in the host material. The results are discussed in terms of the valence and site occupation of the chromium ions.
