Abstract

We built monolithic, diode-pumped ring lasers using Tm,Ho:YAG and Tm:YAG. With 327 mW of pump power, maximum single-frequency output was 31 mW at 2.091 μm for Tm,Ho:YAG and 11 mW at 2.02 μm for Tm:YAG. Q-switched performance of Tm:YAG was superior to Tm,Ho:YAG. Both materials show evidence of upconversion, which reduces the effective lifetime observed under Q-switched operation.
