Abstract
A total system efficiency of 3% is calculated for very high average power active mirror solid-state laser amplifiers of Nd,Cr:GSGG, pumped by remotely generated visible nuclear-driven alkali metal excimer fluorescence. The fluorescence is transported around a radiation shield, separating the fluorescer and the laser, by a large diameter-to-length ratio hollow lightpipe. Parameters are presented for a system producing 1 ms long 12 MW pulses at 1 Hz, for an average power output of 12 kW.
