Abstract

Diode-pumped solid state lasers are currently enjoying application in a wide range of systems including laser radar, active imaging, and communications. In these applications the laser output is often directed over inhabited regions, thus it is essential that the source be eyesafe. At Fibertek, we have been investigating eyesafe laser radar at 1.59 um. To this end, we have developed a Nd:YAG pumped optical parametric oscillator (OPO), with a wall plug efficiency approaching 1 %.
