Abstract

We have built a tunable solid-state Raman shifted 940 nm laser and are further developing it to incorporate the spectral properties required to make humidity differential absorption lidar (DIAL) measurements which utilize the strong water vapor absorption band at 940 nm. In order to satisfy the requirements for making humidity measurements, the laser transmitter must be tunable over the strong portion of the water vapor absorption band (927 to 952 nm), and must be capable of fine tuning without mode hopping over a region larger than a water absorption line to facilitate precise placement of the laser on the line center.
