Abstract

Recently, a new type of laser active color centers in OH-doped NaCl crystals was discovered by Pinto et al.. /1/ and Investigated in great detail by Wandt et al. /2,3/, Georgiou et al. /4/ and German and Pollock /5/. The (F2+)H-centers are easy to generate with reasonable shelf lifetime, stable under laser operation and offer the possibility to achieve laser action in the near infrared spectral region, which is of particular importance for fiber optics communications.
